The story of Janina jewellery started almost 40 years
ago. In their cosy basement shop in Copenhagen´s
Latin Quarter, Lars and Janka Nielsen developed their
unique jewellery design based on an idea by Lars´
parents: hairpins, which have for many years been
one of Janinas specialities. In 2008 they retired, and
their daughter Lisa Lach-Nielsen took over the
wholesale department and the role as manager and
designer. Lisa was born in 1974. She has a master
degree in clothing design from the Danish Design
School and has previously worked as a freelance
dress and costume designer, along with designing
for her parents. Lisa has always had a fascination for
fairytales and nature, which also shows in her dress
designs and her painting; one of her other great
passions. Janina´s jewellery design is best described
as organic and feminine. The material is mainly
sterling silver and goldplated silver, but Janina also
has a tradition of working with untraditional materials
as copper and brass. All stones used for decoration
are semiprecious stones or freshwater pearls.
Lisa Lach-Nielsen is continuously working to develop
new designs, but she will always keep many of her
parent’s designs in the assortment, because of their
popularity, and because they are the heart and soul
of Janina.
